Leaders and technical staff from Mukono District Local Government have commended St. Elizabeth Children’s Home in Nangwa for its unwavering commitment to the care and support of children, including those with disabilities.
During a monitoring and support visit, Moses Lubega, Chairperson of Nangwa Village, lauded the district officials, led by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), for checking on the welfare of the children.
He urged that such visits be made regular, emphasizing the home’s vital role in supporting vulnerable children in the community.
Lubega also dismissed circulating claims that the home operates for self-interest, stressing that it has genuinely supported many children and families.
Similarly, John Walusimbi Mpanga, Speaker of Nakisunga Sub-county, thanked the district leadership for prioritizing the welfare of children with disabilities.
“Children at the home are well cared for and are not subjected to any form of exploitation or illegal charges,” he said, noting the strong collaboration between the home and local leaders.
During the visit, Kiyaga Yafeesi Kawonawo, Vice Chairperson LCIII Nakisunga and overseer of health and gender matters, called on the district to continue supporting the home with essential items and health-related supplies.
He also commended Ms. Betty Babirye , Manager of St. Elizabeth Children’s Home, for her dedication and compassionate leadership.
The Community Development Officer for Nakisunga, Esteriko Kyegombe, praised both the CAO and the home’s management for restoring hope among the children.
Betty Babirye explained that the home was established by a foreign couple motivated by love and compassion for vulnerable children, and it is now officially registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
Representing Mukono District Community Development Officer, Ms. Najjuma Dorah thanked the home’s management for their commendable work and pledged continued collaboration to ensure children’s well-being.
Mr. Francis Kizito Walubi, representing the CAO and Principal Town Clerk of Nakifuma-Naggalama Town Council, also applauded all stakeholders supporting the survival and welfare of children at the home.
The visit underscored the district’s commitment to child protection, inclusion, and community partnership.
Leaders reaffirmed their support for institutions caring for vulnerable and disabled children, emphasizing transparency, collaboration, and sustained monitoring. With continued government and community support, St. Elizabeth Children’s Home remains a beacon of hope for children in Nangwa and the wider Mukono District.
